Brett Flake - Senior Technical Product Manager
Brett has a long background in software engineering before settling into a product role in the last couple of years.

The Challenge

Unorganized and chaotic product documentation

Unorganized and chaotic product documentation was the biggest challenge that Brett faced. It used to be scattered all over the place, some stuff in Confluence, others in Google docs, not to mention Jira. This led to a lot of redundant work because Brett often had to copy-paste from one tool to another - and update the same information across several tools. Having multiple sources of truth at play also became a barrier for accessing data for Brett and for his development team and stakeholders.

The Solution

Alignment, a lean tech stack and a standardised workflow

Delibr has become the one-stop shop for Level's product documentation. Brett now creates a Delibr document once an opportunity has been prioritized in Productboard, and links them together. The opportunity document in Delibr becomes the source of truth for that opportunity, from early ideation until it's been refined and is ready to be implemented.

We use Productboard up-front with our opportunities and begin using Delibr as soon as an opportunity has been prioritized as a priority. We'll go ahead and create a Delibr doc, and will capture all of the discovery work that we do as a product team.

Capturing conversations with a peerless Jira integration

Being able to take all of the work that I've done in my Delibr doc and just very simply highlight and right-click it to create Jira tickets. That is actually probably my favorite feature and my 'aha-moment', realizing the value and power of Delibr.

Making Jira much more usable

Jira is in many ways an excellent tool for managing product backlogs and sprints. However, it is painfully evident that it is not built for the needs of Product Managers, especially for product discovery. For Brett and his team the flexibility of Delibr, being able to outline everything that is relevant for a specific opportunity and at the same time use it as a living document has improved greatly their product documentation.

It makes Jira so much more usable for Product Managers and it provides a much better, more organized way to keep track of all your product documentation.

The Result

Structured product process and a hub for all product documents
The result so far has been more organized product documentation, which means Brett is spending less time on documentation and can focus more of his time on the product.

Now that there's a hub for all Level's product conversations, the cross-functional team is in a better position to collaborate and stay synced throughout the refinement of each project.

We have much more organized product documentation: we have one place where the conversations take place and developers can comment in the in the Delibr doc and so we're much more organized and there's no double entry.

Easy to get started and deceptively simple to use, Delibr has blended into and become an integral part of Level Home's product management workflow so that so Brett's time can be fully focused on the product, their user's needs, validating etc.
